This is so sad, but I just realized that I haven’t done a lifestyle post in months. Despite the lack of sharing I’ve done in that realm, I actually do have a life where I get to enjoy time with my husband and family. Just recently, John and I went on a much needed vacation with my parents. I always thought it would be fun to take a boyfriend on a family vacation, but we never went anywhere when I was dating someone (although John did miss out on a Mediterranean Cruise by 3 days!). I was super excited when my mom suggested we go on vacation with them this summer.
A couple of years ago I went to Destin with my parents and we had a great time. Since then, Destin has become even more of a tourist trap. So if you are wanting a secluded beach vacation, don’t go to Destin. If though, you love emerald coastlines and sand so soft it feel like flour then Destin might be the place for you. The vacation was relaxing and a nice change of pace from our normal lives.
Some of my favorite things to do in Destin were:
-Eating-
The Crab Trap– Delish, Pricey, and probably not swimsuit appropriate.
(Try the crab cake!)
Merlin’s Pizza– Cheap, Amazing and AMAZING
(This was a new find this time around. We wanted something quick and this didn’t disappoint. Trust us. Don’t skimp on the bread-sticks. Worth it.)
-Parasailing-
I’ve para-sailed before, but this time I was quite certain I wouldn’t survive the endeavor. I did survivor though! One of the best parts of this experience was how quiet it is when you are floating along in the sky above.
-The Beach-
We didn’t find the right beach until day three, but once we did we stayed put. Make sure to invest in an umbrella and chairs from the hundreds of Alvin’s surf shops around town. They are worth the price when you can use them every day. Plus it makes for quite the interesting packing experience.
-The Lincoln-
I think only the four of us and anyone who owns a Lincoln MKC will understand. This was a surprise for us from the airport rental place (okay, okay…we may have upgraded for the GPS). This car was a dream though!! I totally understand all of the Matthew McConaughey Lincoln commercials now. This car was so cool it even alerted my phone as to where I had parked the car. I also accidentally imported all my contacts to the car. John promises he cleared them for me, but don’t be surprised if you get a call. After all, it’s been a few weeks and I can still see the Lincoln parked at the airport rental car agency.
I hope you enjoy looking at the photos. Sorry there are so few beach pictures. The salt air was thick and I didn’t want to risk my camera getting damaged by the sand and water. Also sorry that there are so many photos from the museum. It literally happened in the last hour of the trip and I think I got camera-happy. I’m quite certain John and Dad won’t mind though.
