Life…Road trip to Yellowstone (day 6)

MT WASHBURN

Near the end of our Yellowstone adventure, we began to hike a lot. My feet may have had the best hiking shoes possible, but nothing really prepares you for climbing 10,243 feet into the air.

We set out early and still only managed to find the very last parking spot available. The first part of the trip was a bit steeper than originally thought, but the view was nothing short of breathtaking. The trail evened out for awhile as we continued along. Every time we reached a peak, we thought we were almost there. We were wrong. We stopped predicting the end of the hike as the air got thinner and colder. It was about this time that we wondered why we had left our lunches in the car.

By the time we reach the summit we were a little worn out. But the view from the top was worth it. You can really see how grand Yellowstone is from 10,000 feet in the air. Our lunch was beckoning us back down, so we picked up the pace. It was here that we ran into several forms of wildlife. Lucky, Trent has made himself a walking stick and we used that for protection. Sort of.

Let me tell you a little something about that brown bag lunch we devoured: IT WAS AMAZING.

We decided to keep the day going and made our way to Tower Falls. It was highly overrun with tourists. So we found a trail that was empty and explored as much as we could until we were faced with going into the water or turning around.

The day ended with a non-walking tour of Lamar Valley. The roaming bison and beautiful sunset were a perfect cap to the day.
